Tales From The Kennels

The End Of A Chapter.

As we have now said goodbye to the last SASD kennel dog Nala, the kennels lay empty.

We succeeded In the mammoth task of getting all our dogs out, safe and happy.

We have not done this alone. Many people from outside the rescue have also helped.

The kennels will be a lasting memory to all the volunteers who got involved, yes it was grueling, hard work, sad at times, but we also had so much fun, my sides used to split from laughter.

I've made some amazing friends through the kennels, I'm sure most of us have. The volunteers and kennels were a saving grace for many dogs over the years, it's been a stopping point before their new lives, some stayed a little too long though

Many of you may have never heard of some of the volunteers, the ones who just got their heads down and stayed off social media, their appreciation came purely from the dogs and that's all that was needed.

Eventually I will miss my phone pinging every two minutes from kennel chat, although I'm sure Mr Moss will see to that. Thank you to all the kennel volunteers who have helped over the years, we could not have saved half as many dogs without you.

The kennels go out with Mick Jackson, Cameron Firth, Bronya Leslie, Andrea Goodall, Christian Bell, Robyn Stansfield and myself, Lucy. X

We are now all full at the kennels with Tayo unfortunately coming back and so its full speed ahead!

Watch out for updates on the big happy fella!

Training with Nala has been a success and now all the volunteers can walk her without issues, she's desperately looking for a family.

Bear had another trip to the vets to check how his paws are healing and we're happy to say he's on his last course of antibiotics and is almost ready for homing!

The weather has been warm lately so all dogs have been getting their main walks in the early morning, and then splash around in the pool in the afternoon, whatever suits them best.

Thank you for your support.

Another dry week and the kennels and we've certainly made the most of it!

We've had a good clear out and found some lovely new toys for our residents... So they're happy (especially with the squeaky toys).

Training with Nala and Zeus has gone up a level and we're now introducing new dogs to them and they're behaving so well.

Logan is still as daft as ever and still awaits his human to appear so he can slobber them with kisses.

Candy, Alaska and Storm are their usual selves and treat us all like their slaves, but they're definitely enjoying the dryer weather, especially Candy, she hates the rain!

We've also welcomed two new volunteers to our team which is very much needed so I can put more time into training, so it's full steam ahead!

There's been a few new arrivals at the kennels within the last few weeks.

Last week we welcomed the lovely Meeka and Logan, and this week Nala joined the tribe.

All are looking for their forever homes.

It's been a very wet and blustery week but we still managed to get plenty of training done and still had some nice walks.

At the moment I'm working intensely with Zeus, he's very reactive towards other dogs when on walks so this week I've been working on engagement so he will be more focused on me rather then other dogs.

It's been a busy week at the rescue.

Simba has gone to his new foster home with adopted SASD dog - Misca (pic right).

We've been training new volunteers up at the kennels, this is always a long journey as some of our residents are very temperamental and have trust issues, so the first few weeks involve building a bond and learning about each dog.

It was also the dreaded day of fleaing all the dogs on Tuesday, although, this time it went surprisingly well! They all got a nice walk after so they forgave me - thank goodness!

We've had lovely weather here this week so we've had lots of nice sunny walks and visits to the beck (northern word for stream / brook!)

Now time to go feed the sir's and madams and clean their dorms!
